The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Roche contained the following places:

"ROCHE, a parish in the barony of Upper Dundalk, county Louth, province of Ulster, Ireland, 4 miles W. of Dundalk, its post town. The living is a curacy in the diocese of Armagh, value with Baronstown, £348. It is united to Dundalk in the Roman Catholic arrangement. Roach Castle is situated on a rocky eminence, and commands an extensive view. It was partially destroyed by Cromwell in 1644.
