The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Stabannan contained the following places:

"STABANNAN, a parish in the barony of Ardee, county Louth, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N.E. of Ardee. Drogheda is its post town. It is situated on the river Dee, and is crossed by the road from Ardee to Castle-Bellingham. The villages of Drumgoolstown and Rootstown are within the limits of the parish. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Armagh, value £162, in the patronage of the vicars choral of St. Patrick's, Dublin. The church is modern. Here are a Roman Catholic chapel and two private schools. There are ruins of Rootstown Castle.
