In 1868, the parish of Ardagh contained the following places:

"ARDAGH, a parish in the barony of Tyrawley, in the county of Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles to the S.W. of Ballina. It is situated on the north-eastern shore of Lough Conn, near the mouth of the river Deel, which falls into that lake. There is much bog in the parish. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, value with that of Attymass and several others, £920, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is in ruins, and a chapel has been erected near Deel Castle, which is the principal residence. It stands in a beautiful park, on the banks of the river Deel. Fairs are held on the 4th August and the 1st November."
