The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Attymass contained the following places:

"ATTYMASS, a parish in the barony of Gallon, in the county of Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 4 miles to the N. of Foxford. It is situated in a hilly country, on the north bank of the river Moy. The Ox mountains rise on the eastern side of the parish, which contains much bog and many lakes. Freestone is abundant, and limestone occurs here and there. The living is a vicarage united with that of Ardagh, is the diocese of Tuam, Killala, and Achonry. A monastery once stood at Kildermol, of which some picturesque runs remain on the border of a lake. Fairs are held on the 24th May, the 7th July, the 15th November, and the 15th December."
