The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Breaghwy contained the following places:

"BREAGHWY, (or Breaey), a parish in the barony of Carra, in the county of Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, not far from Castlebar. It lies on the banks of the river Minola, and contains a large tract of bog. The lands suffer greatly from the frequent inundations of the river. Good building stone is quarried here. The living is a rectory, part of the union of Castlebar, in the diocese of Tuam, Killala, and Achonry. Among the gentlemen's seats of the neighbourhood are Breafy Lodge, Fisher Hill, and Windsor House. A monastery existed here at a very early period, and some traces of it still remain.
