The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilfian contained the following places:

"KILFIAN, a parish in the barony of Tirawley, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, containing the village of Kincon. Crossmolina is its post town. It is 9 miles long and 8 broad. The surface is boggy and cold, and consists of a poor soil. It is traversed by the road from Killala to Crossmolina. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Killala, value £493, in the' patronage of the bishop. Greenwood and Farm Hill are the principal residences. Here is a Roman Catholic chapel. It is alleged that St. Finian founded a monastery here. Limestone and iron occuracy
