The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmeena contained the following places:

"KILMEENA, (or Kilmina), a parish in the barony of Burrishoole, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 2 miles N.W. of Westport, its post town. The parish includes the village of Knockaunyeveen, and several islands in Clew Bay. The interior is traversed by the road from Westport to Newport. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Tuam, value £254, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built in 1834. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Fahy. There are thirteen day schools. Rosslands is the principal seat.
