The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmolara contained the following places:

"KILMOLARA, a parish in the barony of Kilmaine, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles S. of Ballinrobe, its post town. It is 3 miles long by 2 broad, and contains the village of Neale. The surface lies along the E. shore of Lough Mask. The soil is generally good. The road from Ballinrobe to Cong crosses part of the parish. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Tuam, value with two others, £411, in the patronage of the bishop. Divine service is held in a private house. There are a Roman chapel and two day schools. Neale Park is the demesne of Lord Kilmaine, in the grounds of which a stone of Druidical origin is preserved."

"NEALE, a village in the parish of Kilmolara, barony of Kilmaine, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 4 miles S. of Ballinrobe. Here is a police station. The Neale is the demesne of Lord Kilmaine. Fairs are held on 5th February, 6th May, 4th August, and 5th November."
