The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Meelick contained the following places:

"MEELICK, a parish in the barony of Gallen, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles W.S.W. of Swineford, its post town. It is 4 miles long by 3½ broad. The soil is mostly good. The road from Moy to Spaddagh crosses the interior. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Achonry, united with Kilconduff. The church has fallen into ruins. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Kilconduff. There are two hedge-schools. Newcastle is the chief seat of this locality. A round tower is seen here. Coal and building-stone occuracy"
