Crickstown

CREEKSTOWN, or CRIKSTOWN, a parish, in the barony of RATOATH, county of MEATH, and province of LEINSTER, 13 miles (N. N. W.) from Dublin, on the road to Belfast; containing 209 inhabitants. This parish comprises 1380 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, and valued at £1399 per annum. Sothern, the neat residence of E. H. W. Roney, Esq., is situated here.

It is a vicarage, in the diocese of Meath, and is part of the union of Ratoath: the tithes amount to £90. In the R. C. divisions it is the head of a union or district, comprising the parishes of Creekstown, Kilmoon, Kilbrow, Donaghmore, and Grenogue, and containing two chapels, one at Curraha and one at Donaghmorc, both plain buildings and the former now being rebuilt. About 30 children are taught in a school held in the chapel. The parish formerly belonged to the Barnewall family, of whose ancient residence there are some remains, as there are also of the parish church.
