The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Aghancon contained the following places:

"AGHANCON, a parish in the baronies of Ballybritt and Clonlisk, in King's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N. of Roscrea. It is near the Slieve Bloom hills. The soil is not very good. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, and Kilmacduagh, value £112, in the patronage of the bishop. There is some bog in the parish, and a mineral spring. Ruins of Ballybritt Castle exist."

"LEAP, a village in the parish of Aghancon, barony of Ballybritt, King's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 6 miles S.E. of Birr. Leap Castle is an interesting building."
