The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Dunkerrin contained the following places:

"DUNKERRIN, a parish and post town in the barony of Clonlisk, King's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4½ miles S.W. of Roscrea. It is situated on the Tipperary boundary. The surface consists of a good soil, with some mountain and bog. The parish is traversed by the road from Dublin to Limerick, and contains the village of Bara. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, value with three others, £773, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is a fine building, erected in 1818 by means of a loan from the late Board of First Fruits. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Barns and Moneygall. There are three day schools. The principal seats are Busherstown, Frankfort Castle, Brooklaw, and some others. The castles of Rathnaveoge and Ballinakill are now in ruins."
