In 1868, the parish of Tisaran contained the following places:

"TISARAN, a parish in the barony of Garrycastle, King's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles W.S.W. of Cloghan. Ferbane is its post town. The surface is boggy. The parish is traversed by the Grand canal, and by the rivers, Shannon, Brosna, and Blackwater. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Meath, value £547, in the patronage of the bishop. The principal residence is Moystown House.

"BELLMONT, a hamlet in the barony of Garrycastle, King's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles from Ferbane, and the Grand canal."
