The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Cloonoghil contained the following places:

"CLOONOGHIL, a parish and village in the barony of Corran, in the county of Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles to the S. W. of Ballymote, its post town. The surface consists of good arable land, with a proportion of bog, and some limestone. It is bounded on the E. by the river Awinmore, and is traversed by the road from Ballymote to Tobercurry. It contains Lough Cloonacleigha and the hamlet of Bunnanaddan. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Achonry, and forms part of the benefice of the bishop. There are remains of the castle of the M'Donoghs, who founded a monastery in 1490, of which some vestiges remain.
