Its surface is hilly, and includes much bog. The river Awinmore flows on the N. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Achonry, value with Emlyfadd, £562, in the patronage of the bishop. Here are a Roman Catholic chapel, a National and two hedge schools. St. Fechin is supposed to have founded an abbey here, of which there are yet some traces.
