The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmacallan contained the following places:

"KILMACALLAN, a parish in the barony of Tirerill, county Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 6 miles S.S.E. of Colconey. Boyle is its post town. It is 7 miles long by 6 broad, and contains part of the village of Riverstown and Lough Allen. The surface is mountainous, with some bog. The river Arrow flows through the parish, and the road from Dublin to Sligo runs along the western border. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value with Boyle, £288, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was erected by aid of the late Board of First Fruits in 1818. There are two Roman Catholic chapels, a Sunday and eight day schools. Lakeview is the principal residence.

"RIVERSTOWN, a village in the parishes of Drumcolumb and Kilmacallan, barony of Tirerill, county Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland. It stands on the road from Collooney to Ballyfarnon. It contains the parish church, a Methodist meeting-house, a Roman Catholic chapel, a dispensary, and a police station."
