The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilross contained the following places:

"KILROSS, a parish in the barony of Tirerrill, county Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 2 miles E.N.E. of Colooney, its post town. The parish is 3 miles long by 2 broad. The surface is partly mountainous, and comprises Lough Dargan, and part of Lough Ballylawley. It is traversed by the road from Sligo to Keadue. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value with Boyle, £288, in the patronage of the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Ballinakill. There are three day schools. Castle Dargan is the principal seat, and near it stand some old ruins. A house for Premonstratensian canons was established here in the 13th century."
