The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ballycahill contained the following places:

"BALLYCAHILL, a parish in the baronies of Eliogarty and Upper Kilnamanagh, in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles to the W. of Thurles. Part of the parish consists of bog, and there is abundance of limestone. The living is an impropriate rectory in the diocese of Cashel, Emly, Waterford, and Lismore. The church is decayed. The principal seat is Castle Fogarty, an old castellated mansion, in a wooded park, the former seat of the O'Fogartys."
