The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Bourney contained the following places:

"BOURNEY, a parish in the barony year in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S. of Roscrea. It lies at the foot of the hill of Benduff, at the source of the rivers Nore and Suir. It comprises large tracts of bog and mountain. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, and Kilmacduagh, of the value with that of Borrisnafarney united to it, of £339, in the patronage of the bishop. There are ruins of several old castles."
