The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Finnoe contained the following places:

"FINNOE, a parish in the barony of Lower Ormond, county Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 2 miles S.W. of Borrisokane, its post town. The parish stretches westward towards Lough Derg. The surface is boggy, but has a light soil. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, value with another, £345, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is a neat building erected in 1776. There is a Roman Catholic chapel at Firgrove united to that of Kilbarron, also a private school. Finnoe House and Ormond Lodge are the principal seats. Lough Aven in this parish has an area of about 15 acres. The Ballyfinboy, a tributary to the Shannon, passes through the interior. Elk horns have been found in the Springfield bog, from which spot quantities of shell marl are procured. Limestone is abundant. A medicinal spring exists at Springfield."
