The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Glenkeen contained the following places:

"GLENKEEN, (or Glankeen), a parish in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper, county Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles S.W. of Templemore. Borrisolcigh is its post town. The surface is mountainous. The soil is in general good, and well adapted for the growth of barley. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cashel, value £470, in the united patronage of the crown and the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Glankeen and Ileigh. Here are the remains of an old church, founded by St. Culan.

"BORRISOLEAGH, a village in the parish of Glenkeen, barony of Upper Kilnamanagh, in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles to the S.W. of Templemore, and 92 miles from Dublin. It is a chief station of police, and petty sessions are held every other week. The village contains the parish church and a Roman Catholic chapel. Fairs are held on the 9th June, the 6th August, and the 27th November."
