The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Graystown contained the following places:

"GRAYSTOWN, a parish in the baronies of Slievardagh and Middlethird, county Tipperary, province Munster, Ireland, 2 miles S.W. from Killenaule. Bansha, Tipperary, is its post town. The village of Maradyke is in the Slievardagh division. The surface is traversed by the road from Killenaule to Cashel. Two-thirds of the soil is good, the rest hilly and almost worthless. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cashel, value with Templeneiry, £562, in the patronage of the bishop. There are three day schools. This parish contains the ruins of two castles and of two churches. Fairs are held on the 12th July and 6th December."

"MARDYKE, a village in the parish of Graystown, in the barony of Slieveardagh, county Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles N.E. of Cashel."
