The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Newchapel contained the following places:

"NEWCHAPEL, (or Mulloghnong), a parish in the barony of East Iffa and Offa, county Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 3½ miles N.W. of Clonmel, its post town. The parish is 4 miles long by 2½ miles broad. The soil is mostly good. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cashel, value £381, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built by means of a loan from the late Board of First Fruits in 1819. There is a day school. Springmount, Barn House, and Knockeevan House, are the principal residences.

"CLERIHAN, a village in the parish of Newchapel, in the barony of West Iffa and Offa, in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland. It is situated 5 miles to the N.W. of Clonmel, its post town. There are a police station and a Roman Catholic chapel. A fair is held on the 30th September."
