KILGOBINET, a parish, in the barony of DECIES-WITHOUT-DRUM, county of WATERFORD, and province of MUNSTER, 2 miles (N.) from Dungarvan; containing 2683 inhabitants. This parish comprises 16,134 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, and includes the southern end of the elevated range of the Cummeragh mountains, which are chiefly composed of clay-slate and slaty conglomerate, with veins of quartz and sandstone.

It is a vicarage, in the diocese of Lismore, forming part of the union of Modeligo: the rectory forms the corps of the prebend of Kilgobinet in the cathedral of Lismore: the tithes amount to £380, of which £180 is payable to the prebendary, and the remainder to the vicar. In the R. C. divisions this parish is the head of a union or district, comprising the parishes of Kilgobinet, Colligan, and Clonca, and containing three chapels, two of which are at Kilgobinet, and one at Colligan.

About 200 children are educated in two public schools, and 90 in a private school. There are some remains of the old church.
