The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Lackan contained the following places:

"LACKAN, (or Lecken), a parish in the barony of Corkaree, county Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles W.N.W. of Multyfarnham. Mullingar is its post town. It is 3 miles long by 2 broad at the widest. The surface lies between loughs Derravaragh and Iron. The river Inny traces the N. boundary. The living is a curacy in the diocese of Meath, value with Leyny, £67. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Multyfarnham. Here is a hedge-school. Wilson's Hospital, for the education of 160 Protestant boys, is a handsome modern structure.
