The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Leny contained the following places:

"LENY, a parish in the barony of Corkaree, county Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 1 mile S. of Multyfarnham. Rathowen is its post town. It is 4 miles long by 1 mile broad, and contains the villages of Ballinalack and Brumbrusna. The surface consists generally of prime land. Loughs Iron and Hoyle, in the S., diversify the landscape. The parish is crossed by the road from Dublin to Sligo. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Meath, value £67. The church is a very prominent object. It was built in 1812 by means of a loan from the late Board of First Fruits. There are four daily schools in the parish. The seats are Lakeview and Clandagh House.

"BALLINALACK, a village in the parish of Leny, and barony of Corkaree, in the county of Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 9 miles to the N.W. of Mullingar. It is situated on the banks of the Inny. Fairs are held here on the 15th February, the 18th May, the 2nd October, and the 20th December."

"BANBRUSNA, a hamlet in the barony of Corkaree, in the county of Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 5 miles from Rathowen."

"BUNBRASNA, a village in the parish of Leny, barony of Corkaree, in the county of Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 6 miles to the N. of Mullingar."
