The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868
"TEMPLEORAN, a parish in the barony of Moygoish, county Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 5 miles N.W. of Mullingar. Rathowen is its post town. The surface consists of pasture land, with some bog. The parish is crossed by the road from Mullingar to Ballincargy, and is intersected by the Royal canal. Frewin Hill rises to an altitude of 568 feet. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Meath, value with Leny £67. The church has long been in ruins. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and a private school. The principal residence is Sonna, the seat of the Tuite family for over six centuries. There are remains of several Danish raths."
