The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ballyvaldon contained the following places:

"BALLYVALDON, a parish in the barony of Ballaghkeen, in the county of Wexford, province of Leinster, Ireland, 11 miles to the E. of Enniscorthy. It lies near the coast, and contains the village of Blackwater. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin, value, with two others, £20, in the gift of the bishop.

"BLACK-WATER, a village in the barony of Ballaghkeen, in the county of Wexford, province of Leinster, Ireland, 12 miles to the N.E. of Wexford. It is situated on the sea-coast, and has a police force and a coastguard stationed in it. Fairs are held in the village on the 25th March, the 12th May, the 1st June, the 10th August, and the 10th November."
