In 1868, the parish of Dunganstown contained the following places:

"DUNGANSTOWN, a parish in the barony of Arklow, in the county of Wicklow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles S.W. of Wicklow, its post-town. It is open to St. George's Channel on its eastern border, and a range of picturesque hills skirt it on the W. The new coast road from Arklow to Wicklow passes through it. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Dublin, value £606, in the patronage of the archbishop. The church was enlarged by the late Board of First Fruits in 1821. There are two Roman Catholic chapels and seven daily schools. Part of this parish was detached to form Redcross. Dunganstown House is the seat of the Hoey family, and West Acton that of Colonel Acton. Here is an extensive nursery, containing many rare plants. Slate exists, but is not quarried. The place is noted for its butter. A coastguard station is in the vicinity. There are numerous raths, and vestiges of antique buildings."

"JACK'S-HOLE, a coastguard and fishing station in the parish of Dunganstown, barony of Arklow, county Wicklow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N. of Mizenhead."
