In 1868, the parish of Rathdrum contained the following places:

"RATHDRUM, a parish, post and market town in the barony of Ballinacor, county Wicklow, province of Leinster, Ireland. The parish is large, extending over 41,617 acres of country, one great feature being "the meeting of the waters" in the S. of the parish. The town is situated near the coast, on the road from Dublin to Arklow, 38 miles S. of Dublin, and 8 W. from Ballynacarrig. It is a station on the Dublin and Waterford railway. It contains a dispensary, police station, and workhouse. The woollen trade was formerly carried on here, but has now become extinct. The woollen-hall is converted partly into a Roman Catholic chapel, and partly into a home for paupers. Valuable mineral works are carried on in the mountains. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Dublin, value £438. The church is erected on the site of the old church. There are two or three chapels-of-ease in the parish, and likewise one or two Roman Catholic chapels. There are several schools, some of which are supported by private charity, and one by royal endowment. Thursday is market day. Fairs are held on 3rd January, 17th February, 11th March, 5th April, 25th May, 19th June, 5th July, 31st August, 10th October, 11th November, and 11th December."

"AUGHRIM, a postal village in the parish of Rathdrum, in the barony of Ballinacor, in the county of Wicklow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 8 miles to the S. of Rathdrum. It is situated in a mountainous district on the Aughrim river, at its junction with the Derrywater, at the head of the picturesque glen of Aughrim. The stream flows in a S.E. direction through the glen, joining the Avoca near Arklow, and there forming the second "meeting of the waters." Fairs are held here on the 22nd July, the 22nd November, and the fourth Tuesday in December."

"BALLINDERRY, a village in the parish of Rathdrum, barony of North Ballinacor, in the county of Wicklow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles to the N.W. of Rathdrum. Ballinderry House is the principal residence."

"CARYSFORT, (or Macreddin, or Moycreddin), a village in the parish of Rathdrum, and barony of Ballinacor, in the county of Wicklow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 6 miles to the S.W. of Rathdrum. The Probys of Glenart take the title of baron from this place, which once had a castle, and was incorporated by Charles I. Here is a Roman Catholic chapel, and an endowed free school.

"GREENANNE, a hamlet in the parish of Rathdrum, barony of Ballinacor, county Wicklow, Ireland, 2 miles W. of Rathdrum, and situated on the river Avonbeg."

"SHEANNAMORE, a village in the parish of Rathdrum, barony of Ballinacor, county Wicklow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles N.N.W. of Aughrim. It is situated on the road from Rathdrum to Tinahely, and contains a chartered school."
