Maryburgh was one of the first 'planned' villages. Origially intended as a mining village, it was never completed. The area on which it was built was originally known as Blair Crambeth, but William Adam the architect (architect to King George I) named the village after his wife, Mary Robertson. See also the page on Blairadam.

Maryburgh is in Cleish parish.
