It was founded in 1822, with the current building opening on 4th Jan 1824. In 1932, it merged with St Leonards, to form "Newington and St Leonards", using the Clerk Street building. The congregation was dissolved in 1976.
Many of the congregation left at the disruption, to join Newington Free (Kirk o' field).
The building was sold to the Scottish Philharmonic Society in 1977, subsequently becoming the Queens Hall (concert venue)
