If you have found a problem on this page then please report it on the following form. We will then do our best to fix it. If you are wanting advice then the best place to ask is on the area's specific email lists. All the information that we have is in the web pages, so please do not ask us to supply something that is not there. We are not able to offer a research service.

If you wish to report a problem, or contribute information, then do use the following form to tell us about it. We have a number of people each maintaining different sections of the web site, so it is important to submit information via a link on the relevant page otherwise it is likely to go to the wrong person and may not be acted upon.

Index to biographical listings of Hawick people

These pages list the people covered in detail in the following two articles from the Hawick Archaeological Society's Transactions:

  • "Hawick and its people" by Charles John Wilson, 1921 transactions, pages 30-52
  • "Hawick's prominent men in Victorian days" by James Edgar, 1941 transactions, pages 9-42

Each article consists of a series of short biographies about key people (almost all men) in the town in the Victorian era and earlier. The 1921 article has 95 biographies, the 1941 article 83. Each entry in the index consists of the following information:

  • Name of person (surname first)
  • Brief description
  • Birth and death dates if specified in the article

This index is only a finding aid though: the articles themselves carry much more information. For some of the people there are even photographs. Also in the articles there are references to parents, spouses, employers, children etc. I have not indexed those - I have just listed the people with biographies.
