  • See also p49 of "The Search for San Ffraid " A thesis submitted to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David  by Jeanne Mehan
  •  This extract from The History of the Parish of Llandyssul by  Rev. W J Davies 1896, p 17, is from a chapter styled "Chapels under the Mother Church" ;

"Llandyssulfed; (Saint Sylvester). This chapel stood in Capel Issa field (now called Cae Sylfed by Mr E Thomas). It was on Penyrallt land, the width of a field above Cwrtgwybed in Cletwr Fawr valley. A map by Speed in 1610 describes it as "Capel Llantysylfed", and by Kitchen as "Capel Llantisfed". In 1785, the Rev D Davies was calling it "Sulred" but the name generally used was "Capel Sant Sylfed"

There is one reference to the chapel in the parish records under the heading of "Baptisms" as follows

"1727 Sber 2nd  John son of Thomas Evan Capel St Silfed"

There were burials in the graveyard until around 1780. The last but one to be buried there was the brother of Thomas David Daniel, and the last was the son of Rachel Moses who dwelt near Penrhiw, Llanwenog. The graveyard was levelled by Evan Jones, Cwrtybwybed. He removed the foundation stones, and they are now in the wall in front of the house at Cwrtygwybed, and in the wall of the "Pistyll". David Davies, Penrallt, told his daughter, (the mother of W James B.A. Llandyssul) that he had heard people saying that the last funeral passed through a cornfield to the graveyard. Mrs James remembers well one gravestone with an inscription on it."

  • Otherwise the The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland 1868  has this entry which may be connected GLANDYSILVED, a hamlet in the parish of Llandyssil, county Cardigan, South Wales, 7 miles E. of Newcastle-Emlyn."
