The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of St Clear contained the following places:

"ST. CLEAR, (or St. Clare) a parish in the hundred of Derllys, in the county of Carmarthen, South Wales. It is situated on the river Taff, and is a nominal borough and market town. There was anciently a Norman castle and priory, the site of which was given at the Dissolution to All Souls' College, Oxford. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of St. David's, value £133, in the patronage of J. Phillips, Esq. The charities produce about £20 per annum.
