The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Bishopston contained the following places:

"BISHOPSTON, (or Llan-deilo-vernalt), a parish in the hundred of Swansea, in the county of Glamorgan, South Wales, 6 miles to the W. of Swansea, its post town. It is pleasantly situated in a beautiful valley near the coast of Caswell Bay, and includes the village of Killay. It was formerly among the possessions of the see of Llandaff. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St. David's, value £241, in the patronage of the Bishop of Llandaff. The church is dedicated to St. Deilo. Davies, the antiquarian, author of "Celtic Researches," was once rector of this place.
