"CEVN, a hamlet, in the parish of GELLYGAER, hundred of CAERPHILLY, county of GLAMORGAN, SOUTH WALES, 5 miles (S. S. E.) from Merthyr-Tydvil, containing 526 inhabitants. It is partly situated on the declivity of the lofty mountain from which the parish takes its name, and the Bargoed [?] passes through it. There are several neat residences in different parts of the township, some of which are ornamented with plantations, though other portions are bleak and barren."
