The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Gileston contained the following places:

"GILESTON, a parish in the hundred of Cowbridge, county Glamorgan, South Wales, 5 miles S. of Cowbridge, its post town, and 10 S.W. of Cardiff. It is situated on the S. coast, looking across the Bristol Channel, a little E. of Breaksea Point. The parish is of small extent, and the population wholly agricultural. There is no village, only a few scattered houses. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Llandaff, value £80. The church is dedicated to St. Giles. The Rev. J. Edwards, rector, is lord of the manor."
