The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ilston contained the following places:

"ILSTON, (or Llanilltyd), a parish in the hundred of Swansea, county Glamorgan, 7 miles from Swansea, its post town and railway station, and 5 from Loughor. It is situated on the river Pen-Arths-Pill. The village consists of a few farmhouses. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of St. David's, value £200, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church is an ancient structure, dedicated to St. Illtyd. In 1825 several Roman coins and antiquities of the reign of Nero were found here.
