The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ystrad Owen contained the following places:

"YSTRAD-OWEN, a parish in the hundred of Cowbridge, county Glamorgan, 2 miles N.E. of Cowbridge. It is a station on the Taff Vale railway. The village is said to have been once the seat of Prince Owen-ap-Gllin, from which circumstance it derives its name. The principal seats are Alhall, Hensol, and Talyfaen. Castle. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Llandaff, value £50, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is dedicated to St. Owain. The charities produce about £12 per annum."
