The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of St Brides contained the following places:

"ST. BRIDES, a parish in the hundred of Roose, in the county of Pembroke, South Wales, 7 miles to the N.W. of Milford. Haverford West is its post town. It is situated in a beautiful district on the south shore of the bay of the same name, and was formerly the seat of a great herring fishery. The sea has long been encroaching upon this part of the coast. The bay, which is about 7 miles in depth from W. to E., and nearly the same in breadth from N. to S., would form a fine and safe harbour but for its openness to the west winds. An inlet of the bay runs nearly up to the churchyard. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of St. David's, of the value of £183, in the patronage of Sir W. P. L. Phillips and Mrs. Mary B. Atten alternately."
