Mr W H MOSS, solicitor to the Hull Dock Company died, aged 60 years. 7. WILLIAM LEVETT, bellman of Hull for 40 years, died aged 84. 8. ROBERT WHITELOCK, a youth, committed to York assizes on a charge of attempted arson in Booth Street, Hull. - A seaman named JOHN MILES found drowned at the entrance to the Old Harbour. 9. The remains of Mr W H MOSS interred at the Hull Cemetery. - News received that the s.s. Ella Constance of Hull, had been fired into by a Spanish warship. 13. A new organ for Coltman Street chapel opened by W F BEST, Esq., Liverpool. 14. DANIEL MacCANN killed by falling when carrying deals on the Albert Dock Quay. - Three young men committed to the York assizes on a charge of alleged manslaughter in Walker Street. 15. Alarming railway accident to a mail train near Brough; fortunately no person was injured. 22. ARTHUR CARRINGTON, fisherlad, drowned at sea from on board the Hull smack Elite. 23. Major FIFE met with an accident when hunting with Lord MIDDLETON'S hounds at Ganton; he died the following day. - HENRY DRAINER, labourer, fell into the hold of the s.s. Winestead and was killed. 24. ALICE ANN GIBSON (two years of age), Moxon Square, Moxon Street, died from the effects of burns accidentally received on the 5th inst. 25. Fatal gun accident to Mr T SMITH, innkeeper, Malton. - Consecration of St Barnabas Church, by the Archbishop of York. 26. Conclusion of the Tichborne trial; The defendant found guilty and sentenced to fourteen years penal servitude. MARCH 3. Two boys charged at the Hull Petty Sessions Court with attempting to upset a train on the Hull and Hessle line. - HENRY ALLEN, engineer, Malton, was run over by a horse and cart on the Spring bank, and had his right ear torn off. - FRANCIS ARTHUR BEDWELL, Esq., appointed Judge of the Hull County Court. - Annual meeting Hull Infirmary. 5. News received that Capt. DOUTHWAITE, of the s.s. Westella, had been drowned of Galitz. - The Town council resolved to oppose the North-Eastern Railway Company's proposed new line to Kirkella. 6. The cases against five men who had been summoned for smoking on the Albert Dock promenade were dismissed. 7. Duel between schoolboys at Lincoln; one shot in the leg. 9. The Chamber of Commerce resolved to petition against the 'HULL DOCKS BILL, 1874'. - GEORGE CAWOOD, labourer, was seriously injured by a pile of deals falling upon him, on the Queens Dock side. - Great fire at Messrs. Verdict, "Wilful murder by some person unknown". - The North Myton Liberal Association celebrated the Liberal victories in Hull by holding a public dinner. - CATHERINE FITSGIBBON, 34, Church Street , Sculcoates, found drowned in the river Hull. 18. At York assizes, GEORGE BROWN, for arson, at Hessle and ROBERT WHITELOCK, for arson, at Hull were each sentenced to five years penal servitude. - GEORGE WARD received three months imprisonment for being concerned in the Walker Street manslaughter case. 21. Mr THOMPSON was 83 years of age. 20th] Farewell visit of the Jubilee Singers to Hull. 21st] The London Court of Aldermen elected Mr J H GRESHAM their clerk, Mr GRESHAM had been for many years clerk to the Hull Justices. - A young man, named WILLIAM ANDERSON, who had been stabbed at Cherry Burton on the 14th of April, died at the Hull Infirmary; Verdict-Manslaughter. 23rd] Ald. JOHN LOFT died at his residence, Beverley Road. He was interred the following Tuesday. 25th] Miss BOLINGBROKE, of this town, won the Parepa-Rosa scholarship. 28th] Miss M A TRAVIS, cousin to the Hull Police Magistrate, died very suddenly at Scarboro'. 30th] Strike of joiners at Earles Shipbuilding Company commenced. MAY 1st] Fire at Messrs. GLEADOW and DIBB's maltkiln, in Waterhouse Lane. - At a meeting of the Hull Literary and Philosophical Society, it was announced that the mortgage debt had been liquidated. 2nd] MARY JANE BRIGHAM, 14 years of age, drowned herself in the river Rye, Malton, whilst in an unsound state of mind. - Messrs. HUMPHRYS and PEARSON launched the s.s. Ruby, form their works. - Mr A IVESON, jun. was elected clerk to the Hull Magistrates. - Anniversary of the Hull Police Force. 4th] Mr C WELLS was elected an alderman of the borough vice the late Mr J. LOFT. 5th] Uproarious town's meeting on the Sunday closing of Public Houses question. 9th] The bottom valves of one of the engines at Springhead became defective and the supply of water to the town was partially stopped. 10th] A labourer named THOMAS WARRILOW died at the Infirmary from injuries received on the Albert Dockside four days previously. 12th] Hull Wesleyan district meetings commenced. 13th] GEORGE T STONES, labourer, died very suddenly in his bedroom in Drewitts Court, Aldboro' Street. - Extraordinary election in East Sculcoates ward; Mr GLOSSOP was returned. 16th] Fire at Messrs. ENGLISH and Company's printing office, Church Lane. - Launch of the s.s. Angelo, from Messrs. JUNE 1st] Primitive Methodist Conference in Hull. 4th] Opening of a Congregational church at South Cave. 6th] Great camp meeting in connection with the Primitive Methodist conference. 8th] HENRY WINTERBURN, guard, crushed between two wagons and killed, on the Albert dockside. 9th] Rejoicings at Saltmarshe on the coming of age of Mr P SALTMARSHE, jun. 10th] GEORGE OSTLER, gatekeeper at the Argylle Street Crossing, was knocked down and killed by a passing train. 11th] Anniversary of the Hull Skin and Fat Company. - Mr COOK, fruiterer, Mytongate, committed suicide by hanging himself. 12th] Primitive Methodist Conference terminated. - FRANCIS MARSHALL, labourer, died suddenly at his residence, 15 Cannon Street. 13th] Serious fire at Mr OLIVER's flax mills, Staddlethorpe. - Three lads had a perilous adventure on the Humber; they drifted in an open boat all night, and were then cast ashore at Barton. 15th] Mr C H WILSON, M.P., addressed a large meeting at Cottingham, on 'temperance'. - Councillor SYMONS was elected governor of the Hull Workhouse, in place of Ald. FOUNTAIN, who, after filling the chair for 17 years, resigned office as guardian. - The Salier wad launched from EARLE's ship building yard, for the North German Lloyds passenger service. 16th] Annual meeting, Orphan asylum, Spring Bank. 18th] Inquest at Pocklington on the body of Wm JAMES MOOR, farmer who died from injuries received on the 5th; verdict: accidental death. - RICHARD ROUSE, mate, and an apprentice named TAYLOR, drowned at sea from the smack Leopard. 19th] Distribution of prizes at the East Riding College. 20th] The brother of the Archbishop of York, Colonel THOMPSON, died somewhat suddenly at Paris. - The East York Rifle Volunteers (administrative battalion) went into camp. - EARLE's Shipbuilding Company launched a steam yacht for the Duke of Marlborough. 23rd] Baron HAMMOND visited Hull on his elevation to the peerage, and was, entertained at luncheon by the Mayor, and on the following day by the Dock Company. 24th] A handsome Congregational church was opened at Hornsea. - Lincolnshire Volunteers in camp at Thornton Abbey. - A young man named BINGE, killed at Malton, through an accident with a thrashing machine. 27th] Mr WELLS, J.P., at Boothferry, brother of the late Town clerk, Hull died at Saltburn. - ROBERT BURKILL, labourer, was accidentally killed at Goole dry dock by a large beam falling upon him. 30th] Proceedings in bankruptcy against Mr GEORGE TALL, merchant, Hull, terminated, the charged being dismissed. SEPTEMBER 1st; The body of a female child was found floating in the Albert Dock. - EARLE'S Shipbuilding Company launched from their yard the steam yacht Czarevna for H.I.M. the Grand Duke of Russia. - Foundation stone of Primitive Methodist Chapel laid at Goole; a platform gave way, but no one was injured by the accident. 2nd; Mr JAMES WILKINSON, a retired cork cutter, was accidentally killed on the Beverley Road by coming in collision with a horse and cart. - Heavy thunderstorm at Beverley. A builder named EVERETT seriously injured by lightning. - At a public meeting it was resolved that a memorial statue of the late JAMES CLAY Esq., should be placed in the Hull Town Hall. - Second Exhibition of the Holderness Floral Society at Preston. 8th; Board of Trade inquiry as to the stranding of the s.s. Ella Constance begun at the Hull Police Court. 11th; The Princes Bank boulevard scheme first came before the Park Committee. 12th; ARTHUR FRANCIS, son of Mr SOLBY, of Patrington, was accidentally crushed by the wheels of a waggon in the harvest field and killed. - Launch of the s.s. Carpathian from HUMPHRYS and PEARSON's shipyard. 14th; EDWARD NORTHARD, Trinity House lad, gallantly rescued a boy from drowning in the Albert Dock. He subsequently received several public awards for his bravery. - CHARLES MYERS, 13, Driffield, killed at that place by a horse, of which he had charge, taking fright and dragging him at it's heels for half a mile. - M. DUROUF's balloon was brought to Hull by the smack Zedora. Several testimonials were given to the smack Grand Charge for gallantly rescuing M. and Madame DUROUF. 15th; A captain named Wm. MUDD committed suicide on the Beverley Road, being of unsound mind at the time. - Official trip of the Chilean ironclad Almirante Cochrane, built by the EARLE's company. - Inquest at Sutton as to the death of two illegitimate children. 16th; The Waterworks Inquiry Committee, after extending over several months, published their reports. - WATKIN ANDREW had a marvellous escape from death while working in Messrs. ENGLAND's steam corn mill. - Fire at Messrs. CRAVEN BROTHERS and WATSON's premises, Naylor's Row; estimated damage to stock £100. 17th; Man (unknown) found drowned in the River Hull. 18th; Fire at Mr. A PICKERING's laboratory in Lowgate. 21st; JOHN HORNER, saddler, Market Weighton, killed by accidentally down a cellar staircase. - Opening of new Board Schools at Driffield. - Intelligence was this week received that three Grimsby fisherman had been drowned at sea. 24th; Town's meeting on the question of gas supply to the old town. - Mr GRAY, of te marine department of the Board of Trade, visited Hull, and had an interview with local ship owners. - Launch of the Bessemer saloon steamer from EARLE's shipbuilding yard. 25th; JOHN BINNINGTON, currier, Hull, committed suicide by hanging himself. He was of unsound mind. 26th; ARTHUR HEATON, seaman, fell into the hold of the s.s Essex, and broke his leg. He died at the Infirmary on the 28th. 27th; Boast accident on the Humber; narrow escape of 14 person's; CHARLES CLARK, labourer, East Street Drypool, drowned. 28th Messrs. HUNTER and FOWLER, Hull, launched the steam smack Harmony. - At a special meeting of the Town Council it was resolved to dismiss the engineer. 29th; Messrs. HUMPHRYS and PEARSON launched a new steamer from their works for Messrs.. PILE and Company, London. - Inquiry by Board of Trade as to the collision between the steamers Emily and Londos, of Goole, commenced at Hull. OCTOBER 1st; The Hull Town Council requested the Waterworks Committee to resign. The council also determined the engagement of Mr MANSFIELD HARRISON, water rate collector, and Mr W HARRISON, contractor. 2nd; Opening of a new Primitive Methodist Chapel at Driffield. - Fire at Messrs. HALCOMB's bag warehouse, Blackfriargate; damages about £300. - ROBERT POSTILL, Customs' officer, injured by falling from a train, near Ferriby. He died at the Hull Infirmary on the 12th. 3rd; Foundation stone of the drainage works at Hornsea, laid by Mr J A WADE. - BENSON HARPER, cartman, Staniforth Place, committed suicide. Verdict: poisoned himself whilst insane. 5th; WILLIAM HANLEY, fisherman's apprentice, drowned at sea from on board the smack Two Sisters. 6th; Women's suffrage meeting held in Hull. 7th; Fire at Mr F HARRISON's oil refinery, Dansom Lane; one of the workmen was so severely injured that he died about a week afterwards. 8th; Election of the new Waterworks Committee by the Council. 11th; The roof of the railway engine house at Selby, partially destroyed by fire. Hull cattle and pleasure fair. 12th; GEORGE COLLINS, shepherd, Boltongate, Pocklington, died whilst taking a walk with two friends. - The Police Investigation Committee met, and recommended the dismissal of PC PENNOCK, (135). - THOMAS BRICKLEBANK, cabdriver, Hull, fell in the Station Yard and fractured seven ribs. He died three days afterwards. 13th; Dog show at the Artillery barracks. 14th; Stormy meeting of the Watch committee. PENNOCK (135) and KILVINGTON (74) were dismissed for excess of duty. 15th; The Hull smack Adventure in collision of Flamborough. 16th; A lioness in BOSTOCK's (WOMBWELL's) menagerie gave birth to five cubs at Hull. 17th; HENRY, son of WILLIAM BROWN, No 3 Jarvis Street, died from the effects of scalds received on the 25th Sept. 19th; WILLIAM WHITE, aged 10 years, fell from the keel HANNAH into the River Hull, and was drowned. - JOSEPH HENRY ROBBINS, 13, fell from his fathers water boat into the Albert Dick and was drowned. - Foundation stone of School Boards school laid at Goole by Mr J A ROCKETT. 21st; Fearful storm in Hull. Much property was destroyed and Mrs ELLYARD, Kingston Terrace, Hessle Road, was killed by the chimney of an adjoining house falling upon her. - Subsequently reports were received of great damage having been done to Hull shipping; Five fishermen were drowned at sea. 23rd; RICHARD EMMERSON, seaman, 66 years of age, was run over and killed by a train on the Albert Dock side. 24th; The S.S. Helene, for Hull, was lost of the Danish coast with all hands. 25th; Fatal fire at Bridlington; Miss BODEN, six years of age, burnt to death. - Hospital Sunday in Hull. 26th; Collision in the Humber between two steamers, the Alster of Hull, and the Annie of Goole. - High tides at Hull and Goole. - About this date the Rev. CANON BROOKE, vicar of the Holy Trinity Church, Hull, was appointed rector of the Abbey Church, Bath. 27th; THOMAS CLARKSON, sailmaker, Waverley Street, committed suicide by hanging himself whilst insane. - JOHN LAVERACK, coalman, Mabbs Entry, High Street was found dead in bed. 28th; Death of Mr GEORGE BUCKTON, chairman of the Hull Banking Company. - Accounts received of the supposed loss of the steamer Stad Brugge, from Cronstadt for Hull. 29th; Trial trip of the s.s Contest, launched by Messrs.
