Hawell and Lewis Portbury in the reversion after the death of Richard Hill. Rent: 4s 2.5d [Four shillings, two and a half pence] Consideration: 50 pounds LEASE Indenture made the thirtieth day of January in the second year of the reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the Second...A.D. 1728. Between Robert Cutcliffe of Ilfordcombe in the County of Devon - and Hugh Portbury of the parish of Hawkridge in the County of Somerset. Robert Cutcliffe on receipt of fifty pounds of lawful English money paid by Hugh Portbury does demise, grant and to farm let unto the said Hugh Portbury his part and portion of that messuage and Tenement called Wayhouse with its appurtenances lying within the parish of Withypoole and County of Somerset, some time heretofore in the tenure of one Peter Richards and now in the occupation of Ann Frogwell. To have and to hold unto the end of the term and for fourscore years and ten... for the lives of Wm. Hawell and Lewis Portbury - the term to commence from the death of Richard Hill. The estate of Ann Frogwell is claimed by virtue of a certain deed bearing date the 29th year of the reign of Charles II made by John Cutcliffe of Ilfordcombe in the County of Devon unto one Peter Richards then of Withypoole, and yielding yearly unto the said Robert Cutcliffe 4s 2.5d [Four shillings, two and a half pence]. The premises to be repaired and maintained at the cost and charge of Hugh Hornby. He shall do suit to the Courts held in the manor of Withypoole as other tenants of Robert Cutcliffe have been accustomed to do. If he falls behind with the yearly rent it shall be lawful for Robert Cutcliffe to repossess the premises.
