OLD WINDSOR - Gravestones in Old Windsor Churchyard

Introduction to online edition

The transcriptions and the map of "Gravestones in Old Windsor Churchyard" were produced in April 2008 by Neil Smith using records made available by from BRO and are published here with the kind permission of the Reverend Nigel Pocock (on behalf of the copyright owners, Old Windsor St. Peter and St. Andrew), Olwen Mundye (on behalf of the authors), and the BRO.

Extracts from this transcription and the map itself may be used freely for the purposes of your own family history, as long as no charge is made and the source and copyright are acknowledged.

The transcriptions and the map may not be used for commercial purposes or published elsewhere in any form, nor may they be used for spiritual purposes by other churches.

The book has transcriptions of all of the inscriptions on graves present at the time of publication (c1980).

Gravestones in Old Windsor Churchyard
(BRO reference: D/P150/28/12/1)

Intro to original edition

The right hand column in the following pages gives the date of burial and place of residence (if not Old Windsor) as recorded in the Old Windsor Parish Register. Where the name on the stone has been eroded we have sometimes been able to supply this from the burial register. The Register starts in 1772, so burials in earlier years are marked with an asterisk. Burials after 1899 have not been checked. The numbers in the left hand column relate to the numbers on a plan which we hope will be available in the Church, showing where the stones were when they were read.

Anything in square brackets we have added. Words or letters in round brackets we have guessed from the context.

This record has been compiled by Olwen Mundye and Judy Stewart with the help of Hester Davenport, Heather Hancock, Alison Haymonds, Eileen Reay and others.
