"HAMPTON WELSH (or HAMPTON WELCH), a parish in the hundred of PIMHILL, county of SALOP, 2 miles (E. by N.) from Ellesmere, containing 478 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, endowed with £400 private benefaction, and £400.royal bounty, and in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Lord of the Manor, the Rev. Sir Edward Kynaston, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Michael."
