"MARSTON, a township and chapelry in the parish of St. Mary and St. Chad, S. division of the hundred of Pirehill, county Stafford, 4 miles N. of Stafford, its post town. It is situated near the North-Western railway, and belongs in part to Giffard of Chillington. The village is small, and is within the jurisdiction of the county court of Stafford. The lands are in excellent cultivation, and the soil a rich loam. In 1800 a considerable extent of common was enclosed, when 125 acres were given to the parishioners in lieu of common-right.

The impropriate tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £242, and the small tithes for £100. The living is a perpetual curacy annexed to that of Whitgreave, in the diocese of Lichfield, joint value £180. The chapel is a small stone edifice, with a campanile turret. The parochial charities produce about £1 16s. per annum, which, is divided among six poor parishioners on St. Thomas's Day."
