St Chad's ecclesiastical parish was formed in 1902 from part of Smethwick Old Church. The church, on the corner of Shireland Road and Edith Road was consecrated in 1901.

Church History

The original St Chad's was opened as an iron mission church to Smethwick Old Church in 1882. In 1900 the iron church was demolished and a new church constructed on the same site, which was dedicated in 1902.
The new church was a structure of red brick with stone dressings, in the Gothic style, designed by FJ Gill of Smethwick. It consisted of a chancel, aisled nave with north porch, north vestry, organ chamber, and a north-east bellcot with one bell.
The church closed in 1968 and was demolished in 1971.
The parish was amalgamated with the parish of St Matthew, Smethwick in 1970 and St Matthew's became the parish church of the new parish of St Matthew with St Chad.
