The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ringcurran contained the following places:

"RINGCURRAN, a parish in the baronies of Kinalea and Kinsale, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, containing a portion of the post town of Kinsale. The surface lies along Kinsale Harbour and Oyster Haven. The soil is of medium quality. The villages of Scilly and Cove are within the limits, and are both resorts for bathers. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Cork, value £350, in the patronage of the crown. The church, which occupies a prominent site, serves as a landmark. There are still some remains of the old church. This parish is united to Kinsale in the Roman Catholic arrangement. There are a parochial and a Sunday school. Long Quays and Rathmore are the principal residences. A profitable fishing trade is carried on. Races and a regatta are held during the season. This parish was the scene of several severe struggles during the Spanish invasion of Kinsale in 1600."

"BROWNSMILLS, a village in the barony of Kinsale, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, not far from Kinsale."

"CHARLES-FORT, a fort of considerable strength near Kinsale, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland. It commands the entrance to Kinsale Harbour, and was built in 1670. The remains of the old port are to be seen on the opposite shore. In 1691 they were both surrendered to the Earl of Marlborough."

"COVE, a village in the parish of Ringcurran, barony of Kinsale, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 1½ mile E. of Kinsale. It is situated on the harbour, and is a favourite bathing place. The inhabitants are engaged in the fisheries."

"SCILLY, a village in the parish of Ringcurran, barony of Kinsale, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, near Kinsale. It is situated on Kinsale Harbour, and has a considerable fishery."

"SUMMER'S COVE, a hamlet in the barony of Kinsale, county Cork, Ireland, on the eastern side of Kinsale Harbour."
