The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Subulter contained the following places:

"SUBULTER, a parish in the barony of Duhallow, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 2½ miles E. of Kanturk. Mallow is its post town. The land is mostly under cultivation, and the soil generally good. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cloyne, value £47, in the patronage of the bishop. There is a school supported by private charity. A battle took place here in 1647 between Lord Inchiquin's and Lord Taafe's forces, when the Irish were defeated with a loss of 4,000 men."
