The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Killea contained the following places:

"KILLEA, a parish and post-office village in the barony of Raphoe, county Donegal, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles N.E. of St. John's-town. The parish is 3 miles long by 1 mile broad, and contains the village of Carrigans. The surface lies along the banks of the river Foyle. It consists of a middling soil. The parish is traversed by the road from Lifford to Londonderry. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Raphoe, value £153, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was erected in 1765, by means of a sum raised by local contribution and assessment. There are a Sunday and two day schools. Dunmore House is the principal residence."

"CARRIGANS, a village in the parish of Killea, barony of Raphoe, in the county of Donegal, province of Ulster, Ireland, 6 miles to the S.W. of Londonderry. It is seated on the W. bank of the river Foyle, and is a station on the Dundalk, Enniskillen, and Londonderry railway. Near the village is Dunmore, the seat, of R. M'Clintock, Esq."
